Cupping is a treatment technique that can increase blood flow and decrease muscle tension in the area of soft tissue or joint restriction. One benefit of cupping compared to other forms of soft tissue treatments is that it can be coupled with functional movements, allowing for quicker restoration of normal movement patterns with less pain.
Functional Dry Needling involves the insertion of a thin filament needle to stimulate the healing process of soft tissues (muscle “trigger points”, fascia, tendons, and ligaments, etc) resulting in pain relief and restoration of healthy physiology. Research supports that dry needling improves pain control, reduces muscle tension, normalizes biochemical and electrical dysfunction of motor endplates, and facilitates an accelerated return to active rehabilitation.
A clinical approach utilizing skilled, specific hands-on techniques, including but not limited to manipulation/mobilization, used by the physical therapist to assess and treat soft tissues and joint structures for the purpose of modulating pain; increasing range of motion (ROM); reducing or eliminating soft tissue inflammation; improving contractile and non-contractile tissue repair, extensibility, and/or stability; facilitating movement; and improving function.
Techniques include but are not limited to soft tissue and joint mobilization, muscle energy and neural tension techniques, manual resistive exercise, and proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF).
Vestibular therapy utilizes gaze stabilization and balance exercises to reduce symptoms of vertigo and instability and decrease risk of falls. Skilled Physical Therapists will also utilize a series of tests to determine if the dizziness symptoms are due to the crystals in one’s inner ear being out of place. If that is the case, there are a variety of repositioning maneuvers that can be performed to relocate the crystals and decrease one’s symptoms.
