TPI Overview
TPI stands for TItleist Performance Institute Certification which is a certification program that trains physical therapists to assess and treat golf-related injuries by understanding how physical limitations can impact a golfer’s swing mechanics and performance. TPI helps understand how injuries develop and how to address the physical limitations that cause these injuries. Essentially, it focuses on the “body-swing connection” in golf

Golf Performance Assessment: A Biomechanical and Muscular Screening for Injury Prevention
Golf, while often considered a low-impact sport, demands a complex interplay of biomechanics and muscular fitness. Identifying biomechanical and muscular deficits through a structured physical screening can be pivotal in preventing injuries and enhancing performance. This assessment is designed for physical therapists to identify potential weaknesses that may predispose golfers to injury and to outline an intervention strategy aimed at injury prevention and performance optimization.
Goals of the Golf Assessment
- Injury Prevention
- Evaluate swing mechanics
- Identify underlying causes of injury
- Improve performance
Objective
The primary objective of this assessment is to evaluate key biomechanical and muscular attributes through a series of targeted screening procedures. The outcomes of this assessment will inform a personalized intervention plan designed to address deficits, reduce injury risk, and enhance overall golf performance.
Biomechanical Screening
- Postural Assessment
- Mobility Assessment
Muscular Screening
- Strength Evaluation
- Flexibility Assessment
- Functional Movement Analysis
Injury Risk Analysis
We will review the history of previous injuries and current complaints. At completion of the screen we will provide insights from the screen to forecast potential sources of overuse or acute injuries.
Intervention Strategy
Our physical therapist will generate a personalized rehabilitation or prevention plan based on our findings. The plan will include a combination of manual therapy, mobility and flexibility routines along with balance and strength training.
