Is Your Child at Risk of a Baseball-Related Injury?

Overuse injuries are common in athletes. Specifically, wear and tear of the shoulders and elbows are becoming an epidemic in baseball players. Whether it is a minor injury or a career-ending one, players of all levels will endure an injury at some point in their baseball tenure. While injuries are common, they are not a given; it is possible to be proactive in getting ahead of the injury altogether.

Possible Causes of Injury:

  • overuse
  • poor mechanics
  • lack of recovery
  • muscle imbalances
  • muscle weaknesses
  • range of motion deficits

Reduce your Risk of Injury:

  • proper warmup
  • rest when pain is present
  • practice quality mechanics
  • identify muscle imbalances, weaknesses, & deficits
  • include exercises to improve imbalances & weaknesses

How Can Elite PT help?

The nature of physical therapy is that we are typically consulted after the injury occurs to provide rehabilitation. What many people don’t know is that it is just as vital, if not more so, to be evaluated by a therapist before any major issues arise.

What is an Injury Risk Screen?

During our Injury Risk Screens, a therapist will evaluate your child to assess upper and lower body strength, flexibility, balance, and core stability to identify areas of weakness. Based on our findings, we will provide specific strengthening exercises for your child to include in their training program. If major deficits are found, we may recommend physical therapy or to be seen by a doctor.

Elite PT and Next Generation Sports are taking a proactive approach to lowering your child’s risk of injury. It is possible to prevent these injuries to keep your child on the field instead of treating them after the fact while they are sidelined from the game.

Please contact us if you have any questions in regards to our injury risk screen.
